This morning, I volunteered at the Finish Line for the Kaiser Permanente/Pamakids Half Marathon & 5k. At 7am, parking was impossible, so I didn't find a spot until Noriega--which meant I had a 3/4 mile walk to the edge of the park...and then another 1/4 mile to the actual finish. I have a newfound respect for the finish line and how difficult it is to time now...we were backup timers and it was very difficult to write down scores with people coming in huge groups and not adhering to the rules of not passing, keep moving, etc.
I was only able to stay until the first 25 or so half marathoners came in (under 1:15) because I had to go back to the eye doctor for my scratched cornea. Although I didn't do much, it was nice to volunteer when I've run so many other races with helpful volunteers.
My cornea isn't any better so I'm not allowed to wear contacts for the next day or two and I have to go back to Dr. Cheng AGAIN tomorrow (it'll be the 3rd day in a row).
It was a bitch crossing the park as they closed the Great Highway. I must remember in the future to always plant a car at the finish line and take the bus down later. I am fully confident I'll be ready for the 10-miler at the end of the month and then a trail half marathon at the end of March. It probably won't be fast as the course is a trail that is uphill for the first 2.5 miles, but it should be fun.
